Reggio Emilia

Above is a wise quote from the founder of the Reggio Emilia philosophy, Loris Malaguzzi.

At Art Village Nursery we follow the Reggio Emilia approach and believe that for full growth to take place within a child's development it is important to follow their needs and interests. The Reggio Emilia approach promotes the idea that children are capable of constructing their own learning. According to the Reggio Emilia philosophy the teacher should work as a learner alongside the children, as well as a mentor where they listen to the children, and guide them throughout their learning experience. The key is to allow learning to take place by using the children's' own curiosity and interests.
In Reggio Emilia much emphasis is also put on the environment. Spaces should be open with long and bright hallways, and material should be accessible for the children to encourage exploration, discovery and self-directed learning.
